Question 4

Which of the following problem can be solved by an action on the DBMS (without any other actions performed):

the hard drive on which the data is stored is broken.
the only installed hard drive is completely full.
you enter an SQL command, submit it, and you receive no response.
the computer cannot communicate with the hard drive.
a virus attacked the computer on which the DBMS is installed.

Question 5

Which action is the less likely to help in case the DBMS is responding extremely slowly to all your SQL queries:
increase RAM memory on your computer.
killing a process not belonging to the DBMS but using an abnormal amount of memory.
run an antivirus on the computer on which the DBMS is installed.
replace your hard drive by a faster one.
start and stop DBMS processes.
all of the above can help.

Question 6

4 questions on “DBMS and RDBMS – Quiz

    • Hello Kavita,

I updated both the lesson and quiz on DBMS. The lesson is now containing more information about DBMS, without going too much in details, as it is only an introduction for beginners. As a result the quiz itself contains more exercises; I hope you will enjoy it this time. More explanation of the answers will come in two days.
This quiz’s purpose is to test your understanding of this introductory lesson on DBMS. One can be disappointed when accessing the quiz directly from a search engine, looking for a full-blown quiz on DBMS. I therefore added, in the beginning of the quiz, a link to the entire list of quizzes contained on this websites.

      Hope it helps.

  1. Referring to question no. 4 and the answers therefrom, i would clarifications viz: the first answer option says ‘when you ‘enter’ an SQL command… but the third answer option says “when you ‘execute’ an SQL command…. My question here is: Is there any difference with the words as used in this context between ‘enter’ and ‘execute’ ?

Why would an action on the DBMS ( without any other action performed) solve a problem for which the editor returns ‘syntax error but can’t exactly solve similar problem when you execute an sql query on the editor and receives no response ?

    • Hi Hector,

The difference was not intended and is misleading indeed, I rephrased both questions. The difference is more on the answer received by the user: syntax error versus no response from the server.

Actually the action on the DBMS can help in the case the editor receives no response.
If someone receives a syntax error then he needs to correct his SQL query, that is the only way to solve the problem. If he receives no response, then it can mean that the DBMS is hanging (just like any other software can hang). Then an action on the DBMS can solve the problem: for example restarting it.

Hope it helps, please let me know if you need more information.

      Vincent

P.S.: Sorry I was not able to answer you earlier, just recovered from a bad fever.
